About

We’re very excited to kick off the first Narrative Medicine Creative Writing Workshop of the academic year on Thursday, August 27th! These gatherings are open to anyone interested in creative writing — whether you’ve joined us before or this will be your first time, you’re very welcome! This session will be in person at Aniqa's house (636 Stonegate Drive, South San Francisco) from 6-7:30 PM. Feel free to share this event- anyone affiliated with UCSF is welcome. Please RSVP here if you can join us!

Our sessions center around 1–2 pieces of writing submitted in advance by members of the group. These can be anything from poetry to excerpts of longer prose or other creative nonfiction. We’ll each read the pieces beforehand and prepare comments, either by jotting notes on a printed copy (which we’ll return to the author), or by using Track Changes on your computer (which we’ll email back to the author after the session). During our in-person gathering, we’ll discuss our thoughts and feedback together, followed by an opportunity for the authors to share their own reflections about the pieces. If time allows, we will wrap up the night with a free writing session. These are fun, low stress workshops designed to generate conversation and meet new friends across different departments.

For this session, we’re looking for a few volunteers to share pieces with the group. If you’d like to submit a piece, please send it our way by Friday, August 21st so we have time to circulate it ahead of the session.

We’re looking forward to gathering, sharing writing, and welcoming new voices into the circle.

Warmly,
Aniqa, Michelle, and Anoushka
