Overview

We offer creative writing workshops open to all UCSF community members.

Community through Narrative Medicine

Our Creative Writing Workshops bring together faculty from across UCSF Health, the San Francisco VA, and Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and are organized by Aniqa Azim (Medicine), Michelle Riederer (Psychiatry), and Anoushka Sinha (Pediatrics). Our goal is to build community across campuses and disciplines through a shared interest in narrative medicine and creative writing.

Format

Each session revolves around close reading and discussion of a creative work, followed by free-writing and optional sharing. Workshops are held quarterly, after work hours, and hosted in group members’ homes to encourage connection in a relaxed and supportive setting. Light meals are provided to give participants the chance to share food as well as stories.

Funding

This work has been generously supported by the UCSF Getting Together Doctors’ Day Fund.
